My cat has a severe attitude problem when it comes to strangers.

He's easily
spooked by strangers and hisses and hides whenever anyone comes over.
Normally he's a very sweet cat and he's brave enough to tackle our
dachshund on a regular basis. We have no idea what might be causing his
behaviour, does anyone have a similar problem?
